Dear devotees of Amma Sri Karunamayi, You would recall that the year 2008-2009 has been designated Amma’s Golden Jubilee (Swarnotsava) Year, this being the 50th birth year of our beloved Amma Sri Karunamayi. During the 2008 Gurupurnima Celebration (in Houston, TX) Amma’s children in the Seattle area contributed sufficient funds to provide five (5) homes to the poor people that have been displaced from their homes due to flooding and other natural calamities. Most of the homes will be completed and the keys will be handed over to the deserving poor during the upcoming Navaratri Festival. Thank you for your generous support of the Gift of Homes Project. The 50th Birthday of Amma coincides with the upcoming Navaratri Festival (Sep 30, 2008 – Oct 9, 2008). For this occasion, all the devotees world over were planning for a lavish celebration with pomp and splendor. Amma, with all the love and kindness due of our Divine Mother, has directed all devotees that such celebrations be cancelled (no lavish golden thrones, no big garlands, no pompous decorations etc) and instead to focus the funds on helping to better the lives of the poorest of poor and real needy. Amma has laid out a plan to help the poorest of the poor and the destitute in the interior villages: 1. Gruhadanam – Gift of Homes: Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes due to flooding and other natural calamities. Amma plans to build 500 homes at the cost of $1600 each. You must be familiar with this already. Some of you have already donated to this cause. Most of the homes will be completed and the keys will be handed over to the deserving poor during the Navaratri Festival. 2. Annadanam – Gift of Food: Amma continues to witness a lot of poor people who do not have enough means to even feed themselves a full square meal a day. The inequities are appalling. Amma wants us to feed 500,000 people over the course of the Jubilee Year. The estimated cost would be $0.25 per meal (or $25 for 100 people). 3. Vastradanam – Gift of Clothes: Many poor families do not even have a decent dress to wear and to protect themselves. It is very humbling to see such poverty and squalor. Amma wants us to provide decent clothing to such extremely poor 50,000 people over the course of the Jubilee Year. The estimated cost would be $2.50 per person, (or $25 for 10 people). 4. Arogyadanam – Gift of Health: Scores of poor people do not have decent health care – even for diseases that have been fully eradicated from the developed countries like the US. Surgeries are out of reach for most these people. Amma would like us to sponsor the surgical and medical treatments for many of these people. 5. Vidyadanam – Gift of Education: Thousands of girls and boys are unable to continue their education due to their miserable economic conditions. Amma would like us to provide scholarships for these children so they can better the conditions of themselves and their families. For the immediate term (during the upcoming Navaratri Festival), Amma wants us to start these two projects – Annadanam (Food) and Vastradanam (Clothing). We, the children

Amma says that our donations will provide warmth to the hearts of the poor people in interior villages, and give them hope that we care. Annadata sukhi bhava (Happy are the food givers).
